Fact: “In America alone, an estimated 11.3 million tons of textile waste – equivalent to 85% of all textiles – end up in landfills on a yearly basis.”—Earth.org. All that waste, that fast fashion, those clothes that were worn once or twice and then thrown out, end up in landfills. And what it takes to make those clothes is astonishing. According to Earth.org, The fashion industry is responsible for 20% of global wastewater, 10% of global carbon emissions and Nearly 10% of microplastics dispersed in the ocean each year come from textiles.
Trove is a company that wants to reverse this damage, creating a platform for the world’s leading fashion brands to engage in a circular economy, allowing for brands like Patagonia, Eileen Fisher, and Lululemon to not only make new things but also extend the longevity of what they have already created and have it be passed on.
Let’s Talk Resale is a foundational series that considers the emerging landscape of resale also known as recommerce. We follow Andy Ruben - Founder and Executive Chair of Trove - as he dives deep into the trends shaping the circular economy, from how Gen Z is approaching fashion to how digitization can be revolutionary.
